Do I need any prior experience?

Generally speaking a basic level of skill will be necessary from a safety point of view. This level will differ depending on which race you are thinking of entering, for our coastal based regattas this can be achieved by taking an RYA Competent crew course, however there are also many other informal ways to achieve this. Feel free to get in touch for a quick chat to discuss your level of experience and see what may be the best fit for you.  We're more than happy to work with people to get them where they want to be.

How much will it cost?

Costs vary depending on the race you choose but we do aim to keep costs as low as possible to allow anyone to compete and enjoy this great sport.  We also offer training and delivery opportunities that can be an excellent way to learn.

who else will be on board?

There will be a professional skipper and up to 9 others on board. The variety of experience will range from competent crew, through to those who are experienced skippers in their own right and everything in between.

What's included?

  • Race entry
  • Yacht Charter
  • Mooring fees
  • Basic training
  • Meals at sea
  • Shared cabin accommodation

Are there any extra costs?

We do not include flights, transfers, any meals eaten off the boat (usually 1 per day), or hotel based accommodation, however we do organise crew houses for each event and are happy to offer this as an option to you.  We strongly recommend travel insurance specifically for this type of activity and a personal locator beacon. Wet weather gear is not provided but there are multiple options at different cost points that we are happy to advise on.

Will it be plain sailing?

We certainly hope that you'll be impressed by the standard of organisation and instruction given on the boat, however we may experienced strong winds or no wind at all, there won't be gourmet meals prepared at sea in strong winds and we will be in very close quarters in potentially demanding conditions. If you've raced offshore before you'll know what to expect, if you haven't then we are happy to hear from you and discuss the challenges you may face to ensure it is the correct fit for you. There are no passengers on board, only team mates.

What kind of boat will we be on?

We understand from experience that some of our clients want a gentle introduction to offshore racing whilst others want to be as competitive as possible.  As such we like to properly discuss your expectations and mutually decide whats the best boat for each individual.  Those who would like a gentle introduction can expect a racer cruiser such as our First 40.7, for more experienced sailors we like the Class 40.

I'd like to charter the whole boat, is that an option??

it certainly is, we'd be happy to discuss your requirements and come up with a package that suits you. From bare boat charter through to skippered boats.

How do I sign up?

Get in touch using the contacts page and we'll arrange a chat to answer any questions you may have and get an idea of your level of experience, if everyone is happy we'll get the ball rolling and ask you to provide a 50% deposit with the remainder to be paid 4 weeks before departure.
