In 1953, when they felt that there was still some remaining bad blood between Italy and France after the Second World War, three men sat in a Parisian Bistro with an idea to rebuild a friendship between the two countries. Beppe Croce, President of the Yacht Club Italiano, René Levainville, President of the Yacht Club de France and Franco Gavagnin came up with the challenge of a race from Saint-Tropaz to Genoa in which just 22 boats took part.
Now in its 68th year, this classic annual event now attracts over 200 boats from around the world, and has grown from a single race to three days of racing and numerous social events, live music and fireworks. It’s a mix of inshore races and then the legendary Saint Tropez to Genoa via the famed Giraglia; a 600 metres in length rock and only a single nautical mile off the Corsican coast. Its a 241nm offshore race to test those good relations that those three men aspired to.
We welcome you to join us on our 40 foot mono-hull yacht as we take on the challenge of the Giraglia Rock and whatever the Ligurian Sea throws at us with safety at the forefront of everything that we do.
