Race Details

Join us for the iconic Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, a bucket-list adventure for sailors, enthusiasts, and spectators alike. Organised by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) in cooperation with the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, this legendary race has been challenging crews and captivating audiences for decades.

Every year on Boxing Day, the cannon fires, sails fill, and the fleet sets off from Sydney Harbour into the Tasman Sea. Over the following days, crews navigate approximately 628 nautical miles (1,163 km) of some of the world’s most exhilarating offshore waters. From the bustling harbour to the exposed Bass Strait, past the dramatic cliffs of Tasman Island, and through Storm Bay into the Derwent River, every mile tests skill, teamwork, and endurance.

On board, you will experience the thrill of ocean sailing first-hand, take part in preparing and managing the boat, and share the highs and challenges with your crew. Beyond the racing, the journey offers breathtaking seascapes, a deep sense of camaraderie, and the unforgettable satisfaction of crossing the finish line in Hobart, Tasmania.

What to Expect for an SRA Trip
  • No PassengersAlthough we are happy to provide sight seeing adventures, this experience is an Ocean race. You can expect to be actively involved in sailing the boat, there isn't any rail meat on our boats. Please expect the prep week to be hard work, getting a boat ready to cross an ocean is a huge undertaking, we can't do it without everyone pulling in the same direction, this is also a great opportunity to learn the systems onboard and bond with your fellow crew mates.
  • Racing across an oceanWe love sailing but for us racing adds that extra something special, working as a team, powered only by the wind, through squalls and becalmed weather, this extra challenge makes the arrival all that more rewarding.
  • Professional InstructionOur Skippers are experienced instructors that make every crew member feel welcome and tailor their delivery to the experience and style of the crew
  • Competitive boatAlthough the taking part is often fun, we believe the full experience comes from pushing ourselves to the max and competing with other boats on the water with a view to win
  • High safety standardsMaintaining and equipping a yacht to a high standard is not an easy task. No expense is spared in ensuring the best equipment is selected.
